CORONAVIRUS case numbers in the region have accelerated sharply over the last week.

There were 838 new positive cases recorded locally in the last seven days, according to Scottish Government figures published this afternoon.

On average, 100 new cases are being found every day in Dumfries and Galloway.

And covid numbers have now passed the 2000 mark – currently sitting at 2337 (compared to 1499 on December 29).

Meanwhile, 20 people are today in hospital in this area as a result of the virus.
