URGENT upgrades to Gretna’s CCTV system have been called for by the town’s community council.
They have been in contact with Police Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Council, and say both bodies have agreed that the CCTV in the town could use an upgrade.
While the plans are still manifesting, it is hoped that the cameras in Central Avenue will not only be upgraded to have night vision, but also move both ways to have a wider field of vision.
Community council chairwoman Kirsten Herbst-Gray said: “I’ve spoken to Steven Rae of Dumfries and Galloway Council regarding an upgrade of the CCTV in Central Avenue.
“Steven explained to me that it is possible to upgrade the CCTV system and we both agreed that there was room for improvement.
“As such, Steven said he would look into getting two cameras with night vision as that was what Police Scotland identified as a need, alongside regular maintenance and cleaning.
“And as the camera currently has limited surveillance, Steven added that he will try to make the camera look in both directions.
“We will get an upgrade to CCTV. We will, if it is the last thing I do.”
