HOW GOOD – or bad – a deal do you think people in Dumfries and Galloway get on their council tax?

According to new research by Haysto, residents living in the region get the 15th worst deal in Scotland when it comes to the monthly payment which funds public services and schools.

The mortgage brokers calculated the results – which ranks Argyll and Bute as having the overall worst deal and the City of Edinburgh as having the best – by looking at each area’s average council tax rates as a percentage of average annual income and as a percentage of average house price, assigning each of the 33 regions a score out of ten, with a lower score indicating a more heavily-taxed area.

Dumfries and Galloway was scored 4.82, ranking slightly above mid-table in the list of places in Scotland paying the most council tax relative to income and house prices.
