NEW figures have revealed 13,470 households across Dumfries and Galloway were supported through the council tax reduction scheme in December.
Designed to mitigate the cost of living crisis, data released by the Scottish Government show that the council tax reduction scheme has saved Scottish households over £3.5 billion in the past decade with the average home seeing £800 come off their bills per year.
South Scotland SNP MSP Emma Harper has welcomed the new figures and said: “Supporting people through the cost of living crisis is the SNP Government’s top priority – and these latest Scottish Government figures show that the council tax reduction scheme is helping people right here in Dumfries and Galloway.
“In D&G, 13,470 households are being supported by this scheme. This is on top of every single home in Dumfries and Galloway benefitting from having their council tax frozen in the next year.”
