And on June 21 alone there were 80 new cases discovered locally.
As of Sunday, there were 30 people in the region’s hospitals as a result of covid.
Meanwhile, the current hotspots according to Public Health Scotland figures are Troqueer, Annan East, Lochside and Lincluden.
There are also pockets of covid in Georgetown, New Abbey, Dalbeattie, Nunholm, Central Dumfries, Lochmaben, Moffat, Langholm and Lockerbie.
Nith Ward Councillor David Slater, pictured, has been among the people catching the virus this time around.
He said: “At the beginning of last week I started to feel unwell, I had a small cough and felt terribly tired, so I did a covid test to find it was coming up positive, so I self isolated.
“As the week passed by I did not get any better and by the Friday morning I attended my local doctor. This was when my journey began. I was admitted to A&E then critical care where the team took charge to help me over the next four days, then to Ward B2 from where I was allowed to go home.”
He is now recovering at home and added: “I cannot thank the staff enough who cared for me and the commitment from everyone was truly marvellous. I could not have asked for better care.”
