Councillor calls for ideas for tackling issues
UPDATE . . . Cllr Richard Brodie spoke about his work in and around Annan

ANNANDALE South councillor Richard Brodie gave an update on his work as an elected member as well as his involvement in other community groups in Annan at this week’s community council meeting.

Speaking at St Andrew’s Social Club on Monday night, Cllr Brodie said: “I’m now chair of the tackling poverty, inequality and housing sub-committee. It’s a huge job, and if you have any ideas of how we can tackle these problems let me know.

“A lot of people are struggling and the council is doing its best to alleviate that.”

Elsewhere, Mr Brodie is also chair of the Annan Harbour Action Group and Annan the History Town.

Giving an update on the harbour redevelopment project – which you can read more about on page eight, he said: “I have been working with Annan Harbour Action Group and we have been making great progress.

“We have signed a contract with the council and hopefully we can make big progress this year.”
Community council chairman Allan Weild added: “The harbour project is a big one. I think it will be a great asset to the town when it’s complete.”

And on the History Town group, who recently revealed the name of their proposed public art centrepiece – Spirit of the Annan, cllr Brodie said: “Graeme MacGregor and Gail McPhillips (ATHT joint development officers) have been doing great work.

“Gail is making great progress with the public art centrepiece and it’s now got a new name.”
