The serving of the Writ signals the start of the Election countdown with the existing Parliament now disbanded.
Notices of the General Election will be displayed in public buildings throughout the region as well as on the Elections part of the Council’s website.
Mr Stevenson said: “The announcement of the General Election was a surprise to everyone.
“I didn’t think I’d be going into my fourth election count so soon after finishing my third one the Local Election.
“Every effort will be made to ensure that everyone entitled to vote is able to do so freely and we would urge members of the public to vote.”
The Writs were received on an already busy day for the Returning Officer as across the region people are heading to polling stations to have their say in the Local Government Elections.
Mr Stevenson is the Returning Officer for the Dumfries and Galloway Constituency and also the new Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale Constituency.
