Couple reveal petanque club hopes

A LOCHMABEN couple are busy setting up a new petanque club in Dumfries.

Retiree Zena Forbes and her husband, Brian, are attempting to drum up interest in a new club being put together to play at Dock Park.

The couple have played in Moffat since they moved to Lochmaben in 2019 but want to start up a club closer to home, and a base in Dumfries would make four clubs across the region – giving them the possibility of starting a league.

Mrs Forbes went to visit Dock Park and found that even half of the bowling green would make the perfect space and is now looking for members to join.

She said: “Dock Park has all the facilities we would need from day one.

“I have always believed it’s a sport for anyone – from eight to 80 I always say – and I’d love to get more people involved.”

A minimum of six people are needed, with space for a maximum of 50, and Zena has already had a few expressions of interest.

She hopes that in the future they would be able to set up taster sessions for people to come along and try the game out, with no obligation to join, and also has plans to collaborate with local community sports hubs to try and get more younger people involved.

If you would like to get involved or get more information, contact Zena Forbes on 01387 810166.
