Couple’s charity challenge in memory of Sam

EDINBURGH Woollen Mills across the UK are today uniting to raise funds in memory of five-year-old Sam Dorrance, all thanks to an Annan woman.

Little Sam, whose parents Graeme and Tanya are from Annandale, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in 2015 and sadly passed away in 2016, weeks before his sixth birthday.

But his memory lives on and family and friends have pushed through their grief to raise vital funds for charities, including the Brain Tumour Charity.

Family friend Lynn Candlish is the latest to get involved in fundraising.

Lynn, who works as a retail support co-ordinator for Edinburgh Woollen Mill, has got the full support of the company and has organised a nationwide event in stores.

She said: “The Brain Tumour Charity have a national day of fundraising tomorrow called #WearItOur or Bandana Day.

“The main idea is that people wear bandanas that they either buy from the charity or make themselves.

“The Edinburgh Woollen Mill are getting involved in a number of ways; holding coffee mornings, book sales, selling crafts etc and generally just having fun whilst raising awareness.

“On the day I will be doing my ‘Challenge Anneka’ bit and getting to as many stores as I can to support. The last stop on my tour will be Gretna Gateway where I will announce the total raised for the day.”

Meanwhile her and husband Martin Candlish will push their bodies to the limit to raise funds in memory of Sam.

Eaglesfield native Lynn said: “Sam’s memory will live on in all of the fundraising that is being done in his name.

“My husband and I wanted to get involved and as our passion is obstacle course racing we came up with the ‘Tough Ten’ challenge which consists of 10 of the toughest races in the UK and we’re also doing an event in Oslo.”

Lynn will tour EWM stores today, arriving in Gretna Gretna at around 5 pm this evening to reveal the total.

Moffat Tweed Shop are set to take part in the event, a day later tomorrow, by throwing a fitbit challenge, complete with exercise bike outside the shop.
