Covid cases spark business closures

TWO businesses in Annan had to temporarily close this week after staff were linked to positive Coronavirus cases.

McColls newsagents on the High Street, which also houses the town’s Post Office, was shut briefly on Thursday morning due to a shop assistant testing positive for Covid-19.

A spokesperson for the retail group confirmed the news and said: “As a precaution, we temporarily closed the store this morning so that we could conduct a deep clean in line with the latest health and safety standards, and all colleagues are following isolation guidelines.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers remains our absolute priority during his time as we continue to keep the local communities we serve supplied with the food, goods and services they need. We continue to proactively follow Public Health Scotland guidelines and keep our protocols under constant review.”

Furthermore, The Salon closed on Wednesday after staff confirmed of “exposure to a positive covid case” at the Bruce St hairdressers.

They said in a statement posted on social media: “We have taken the decision to close while we all have tests and deep clean the salon. For our safety and the safety of our customers.

“We are working out health and safety rules and protocols and will inform everyone with the outcome.”
