After the success of the Poppy Scotland display and collection last November, Morrisons’ community champion Myra Smith came up with the idea to create a similar display for Marie Curie’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal.
She recruited members of a local crafting group, “Caring for our Community”, to help.
And they have knitted, sewn and made more than 1100 daffodils. The daffodils are all individually wrapped and available to take for a donation to the charity.
Doreen Johnston, from Caring for the Community, said: “I am delighted to be a part of this group of volunteers. Each and every one of them brings their own talent and enthusiasm to our group. We help support each other, share ideas and have fun. We love the fact that our crafts can raise much needed funds for a charity in these difficult times.”
Myra Smith added: “I can’t thank everyone enough for their contribution towards this project. We have created an amazing display and we hope that we can help this very worthy charity raise much needed funds.
“Marie Curie can’t come into store to collect this year due to current restrictions. Being part of this group has helped people through a long January in lockdown with something to do. A big community effort from all.”
