A TOTAL of 17,864 crimes and offences were reported in Dumfries and Galloway last year.
Police have released the figures which cover April 2024 to March 2025 and show a small, one per cent, increase on the previous year.
The top three issues were disorder, which accounted for 4243 of those incidents; followed by 2194 acquisitive crimes; then 2161 violent crimes.
There were also 1741 cases of domestic abuse, 1462 common assaults, 487 sexual crimes, 347 missing people and 192 housebreakings.
Officers also noted seven road deaths, and said 16 were seriously injured on the roads, while driving under the influence rose by 69 per cent and there was 1970 drivers caught speeding.
Meanwhile, it’s also revealed that the number of domestic abuses went up by 22 per cent, while disorder dropped by 19 per cent.
In relation to drugs, there were 25 confirmed deaths in 2024, as well as 24 drugs supply charges and 298 cases of drug possessions.
An increase of 67 per cent was seen in hate crimes, of which there were 92 locally.
Finally, 309 complaints were lodged about the police.
Area commander Chief superintendent Steven Meikle will present the full report to councillors next week and discuss the contents.
