Cushions and throws wanted by refuge

A CHRISTMAS gift collection is taking place for families who will be spending the festive season in the Dumfries Women’s Aid refuge.

The Friend’s of Women’s Aid group are appealing for donations of new cosy items and home comforts.

They are keen for new cushions, blankets and throws, as well as journals, pens, coffee and tea.

Marita Jamieson-Barr is helping to co-ordinate the appeal and said: “When a women/family arrive seeking safety in Dumfries, they have fled abuse and they often leave all their belongings behind.

“Women’s Aid would like to be able to provide cushions and cosy blankets for comfort, these items will be used as they start again. “Everyone deserves to feel safe, loved and have homely comforts.

“Journals are a way to allow women to express themselves on their healing journey.”

Drop off points have been set up across the region at Barr’s Garden Centre in Moffat, Whitesyke of Longtown, Dalbeattie Garden Centre and Heathhall Garden Centre. They will be available until December 18.

Alternatively, contact Marita on 07555970276 to arrange collection.

She added: “We are hugely thankful to Dumfries Women’s Aid for all the amazing support they provide women/families in Dumfries and Galloway.

“If you are able too, please donate. Every donation makes such a huge difference for women/families arriving seeking refuge and starting again.”
