Dairy show celebrates best of South West

TOP dairy cows lined up for this year’s South West Scotland Dairy Show at Wallets Mart.

Wit entries from as far as Ballantrae, Hexham and Penrith, judge Gavin Baillie, of Dalserf Holsteins, had a tough job.

It kicked off with a strong class of junior young handlers with Sophie Brown, Haugh of Urr, winning for the second year running, leading Logan Jones Alpha Apple Tart this time.

Securing the red ribbon in the senior handling class was Kacie McCormick – her third win at the South West Scotland Dairy Show.

Lucy Roan led Colvend Salah Emma 2 to take the calf championship; and reserve was first time exhibitor, Kane Ogden leading his own Pearsgill Hano Blexy.

Claiming the first milking championship in the Ayrshire section was Keith Davidson’s third calver, Carnell Barby Doll 8 EX91. Standing reserve champion and exhibitor bred champion was the winning heifer in milk, Halmyre Urr Ladybird 569 VG85, also from Keith Davidson.

The Jackson family secured champion and reserve in the Jerseys. Their champion was Guillyhill Video Daisy VG88, while the reserve from the same home was the first place heifer in milk, a maternal sister to the champion.

Brian Yates led Logan Latenite Shania Red VG87, to take the Holstein and exhibitor bred championship. Calved in January, she stood first in the heifer in milk class before taking top honours.

Taking reserve spot was the senior cow in milk, Eedy Crushabull Acclaim EX93, also from B & M Yates.

Winning the production cow class was the Jackson family with Clifton Chavez Denise. She is the dam of the champion and reserve.
