Darts show back with a Barn-ey

DARTS starved fans across the region will have the chance to watch – or even step on the oche to play – a true arrows legend next month.

Five-time world champion Raymond Van Barneveld is coming to Lochside Club, Dumfries, on Sunday, September 19.

The Dutchman – nicknamed Barney – is adored worldwide and is regarded as one of best darts players of all time.

Barney – who has collected 21 major titles during his 20-plus professional career – initially retired from the sport in March 2020 but sensationally returned to the PDC this year after qualifying through its Q-School.

It is sure to be a terrific session of darts and co-organiser Graham Lennox can’t wait for the first exhibition in nearly three years.

Graham said: “We’ve done a number of these exhibitions in the past before the pandemic started. We need them back on for a bit of normality and it’s a pleasure to welcome a true darting legend to Dumfries.”

The event – which will be hosted by MC Paul Booth – will have the usual fun, sports memorabilia auction, two silent bids for a chance to play Barney and a potential meet and greet with social distancing in place.

Doors open at 12 pm with the event starting at 1.30 pm.

Tickets are priced at £25 or a table of 10 for £200, which also gets one member of the table a spot to play against Barney.
