Day centre in votes plea

ANNAN and District Day Centre is calling on people to vote for them in this year’s The People’s Projects and help secure £66,225 of National Lottery Funding

The day centre is one of five groups in the running for a share of £250,000 of funding. If successful in their bid, money will support them through the cost of living crisis, offer employment opportunities and support the beginning of their new building project.

Annan Day Centre chairman Donald Irving said: “The People’s Projects has given us an amazing opportunity to raise awareness and support for our work and, with your help, secure this additional much-needed funding.

“If we win, our project will make a real difference to our local community by allowing us to begin the work on our project of building our purpose built day centre, support the centre to continually develop services and support members through the cost of living crisis, reduce social isolation, and provide new employment opportunities.

“We now need local people to get behind us, to show their support and vote.”

Voting opens at 9 am on Monday at www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk and if you would like to vote in person then Annan Day Centre has postal cards. You can pop in to the centre – at Victoria Halls – on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday next week. Alternatively, board members will be at Tesco with voting cards tomorrow and on Monday from 10-1 pm.

Voting closes at noon on Friday May 26. People are limited to one vote per region.

The People’s Projects delivers grants to the heart of UK communities and raises awareness of the work of 95 shortlisted community groups. Back after a three-year break, The National Lottery Community Fund, ITV, UTV and the Sunday Mail (in Scotland) have teamed up to give the public a chance to decide how funding should be put to use.

Runner’s up will be offered up to £10,000.
