Dead cat update

A CAT found dead in Dumfries was not burned, say vets.

The Scottish SPCA has issued an update after the cat’s body was discovered in a field on October 18.

Initial reports had suggested foul-play and that the cat had been set alight. However, after examination by a vetthis was ruled out as there was no evidence of burns or scarring on the body.

Scottish SPCA inspector Paul Tuchewicz said: “This is a very sad situation and our thoughts go to the owners of the cat.

“There have been incorrect reports of deliberate harm inflicted on the cat but there is no evidence of this after a full veterinary examination.

“At this time we have no reason to believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the cat. It could be that the cat was involved in a road traffic accident or passed away from natural causes.”

He called on members of the public to get in touch if they can provide a witness statement or evidence that will help ascertain what happened to the cat.

The number for the confidential animal helpline is 03000 999 999.
