Debut novel for author Pat

THORNHILL writer Pat Kirby has launched her debut novel (The) Last Year, set in Nithsdale.

It tells the story of American Deborah Heaney, who gets shocking medical news amid the traditional Hogmanay celebrations.

Although she never acknowledges the diagnosis, Deborah believes the consultant’s view that she has a year of healthy life ahead. After that, all bets are off.
She packs her bags and embarks on a journey into her past. It takes her to New England, California, Ireland and the north of Scotland to embrace life, laughter and love.
The novel finishes the year with the kind of party we would all like to go to.
A launch night and reading was held at Waterstones in Dumfries, with a second event at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel in Thornhill.
Both were well attended and fans raved about the book, describing it as a ‘joyous’, a ‘page turner’ and ‘very readable’.

She also writes a blog and is encouraging others to share their own ideas, serious or light-hearted, about how they would spend their final 12 months of healthy living.
