The DX group has reopened ten of the 15 former Tuffnells Parcels Express depots –including Lockerbie’s Unit 6 – that it took over from administration in late June.

At the time, of the 2,200 staff, in depots across the country, only 128 were retained.

The DX Group have saved the Lockerbie site as they look to boost their operations north of the border. And over 350 former Tuffnells employees have now joined the group at the ten reopened sites. A spokesman for DX confirmed that 15 full time jobs have been recovered at the Lockerbie base.

Lockerbie man Chris Renwick – who has worked at the site for seven years – expressed his delight at the news.

He said: “It’s great for the area and it’s great for business.”

Meanwhile, Paul Ibbetson, chief executive officer

of DX Group, released a statement saying the company “looks forward” to supporting the local community.

He said: “We are delighted to have re-opened the ex-Tuffnells depot in Lockerbie. DX already has a strong presence in Scotland, but this further addition is key to our continued growth plans. We look forward to supporting local businesses and people in the area.

“We have now reopened 12 of the 15 former Tuffnells depots that we took on from the administrator of Tuffnells in late June.

“These openings substantially increase our freight capability across the country, from the South of England, through the Midlands, Yorkshire, and into Scotland.

“They will provide the additional capacity we need to handle the volume growth that we are experiencing. They will also support our drive for further efficiencies, environmental and customer service benefits.

“Developing the depot network is a key component in delivering our continued growth plans, and we expect to be able to report on further openings over the coming months.”
