DUMFRIESSHIRE lass Demi Thorburn has raised over £700 for charity in memory of her dad.
Along with her friends Shannon Kerr and Keira Cunningham, Demi took on the 22-mile Ullswater Way challenge in the Lake District earlier this month fuelled by love, remembrance, and the unwavering desire to help others.
Demi walked in memory of her beloved father, who tragically died by suicide three years ago. Determined to turn her pain into purpose, she set out on this journey not just for him, but for every family affected by suicide, ensuring that no one feels alone in their struggles.
And she has raised £775 for mental health charity Silence of Suicide (SOS).
Reflecting on the experience, Demi said: “I don’t have the words to fully express how much this challenge has meant to me. Walking 22 miles with my incredible friends, knowing we were making a difference, was overwhelming in the best way. Losing my dad left a hole in my heart, and I just want to help others, so they never have to feel the pain that my family and I have felt.
“To everyone at SOS Silence of Suicide, thank you for your support before, during, and after our walk, it means the world. To my family and friends, thank you for every donation, every kind word, and every moment of encouragement. Nothing has gone unnoticed.
“I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I hope the funds we’ve raised will help other families find hope, support, and strength.”
