A FORMER clinic building in Annan could be set for demolition after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Charles Street Clinic was last used, in a clinical capacity, for the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccinations.
It has since been used as storage space and the Health Board are now exploring how to best dispose of the site.
A spokesperson for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said: “The former Charles Street Clinic is no longer used for provision of clinical services with those having been relocated into the Treastaigh building.
“NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Estates and Property Team have commissioned a site survey and quotations for the
demolition of the clinic, with a view to understanding best disposal route for this surplus site.
“However, arrangements are being made to ensure the site remains tidy up to the point of disposal.”
Annandale South councillor Sean Marshall had received several complaints from residents – who live in close proximity to the area – with concerns raised that it could turn into yet another derelict building in the town.
Mr Marshall said: “I am disappointed that another use cannot be found by the NHS for the building which could have provided much needed, additional health and care facilities/services in the Annan area.
“Whilst this is potentially another derelict property in the centre of Annan it is important that they demolish the site as quickly and safely as possible to allow for a future sale and redevelopment of this site.
“Unlike other long standing derelict properties that have become an eyesore due to private ownership, such as the Central Hotel and Erskine Church to name but two, I am hopeful that as this building and site is in public ownership by the NHS, then demolition, sale and future development should be progressed as quickly as possible with public consultation carried out as required.
“The last thing we want is another derelict eyesore in the town centre.”
