Doctor’s surgery issues to be raised at Holyrood

ISSUES at Lockerbie’s GP surgery are expected to be raised at First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament next week.

The town’s community council chairwoman Jan Andrews told members on Tuesday night that Dumfriesshire MSP Oliver Mundell will be highlighting the struggles with the service run by Alba Medical Group.

Mr Mundell said: “The situation at Lockerbie and Moffat GP surgeries is completely unacceptable and remains very disappointing.

“I am inundated with complaints on a weekly basis and I am concerned that the promises made by the new operators and the health board have turned out to be empty.

“Having failed to secure any concrete commitment from local health chiefs on plans to improve the service I am now pursing the issue with the Health Minister and have a question lodged for next Thursday.”

Meanwhile, community councillors also noted that the surgery’s voicemail is outdated and hasn’t been changed for a significant amount of time.

Responding to that, a spokesman for Alba Medical Group said: “We have been able to establish who the external contractor is for the telephone system and are now engaging with them in order to get this updated so this should be resolved in the near future.”
