Dog charity in Xmas plea

DUMFRIES and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre is asking dog lovers everywhere to reflect before commencing their Christmas shopping.

The charity, based at Glencaple, is hoping that people will consider sponsoring its supported adoption scheme dogs as an alternative present for family and friends. A number of dogs live very happily in family homes following time spent at the centre, but due to age and/or ill-health, they will always need additional veterinary care. As a result, these dogs would most likely never find a “forever home” if the charity did not agree to pay for the additional costs throughout their lifetimes. A spokeswoman said: “This is, of course, a high cost for the centre to bear, but when we see how happy these dogs are in their homes, we know it is a cost worth paying. To help us, we are hoping that people may decide to sponsor a year’s support instead of a gift to those on their Christmas shopping list this year.”
