ANNAN Athletic legend Peter Watson has swapped Galabank for Palmerston Park.
The long serving Black and Golds defender and coach has linked back up with former Athletic manager Peter Murphy, now in charge at Queen of the South, by joining the backroom team at Queens.
Watson was in the Doonhamers dugout on Tuesday night as the Dumfries club travelled to Glenafton for a friendly match.
He initially played under Murphy at Athletic before later joining his coaching team.
Last season, while Murphy departed to manage in Dumfries, Watson, 39, opted to remain at Galabank to serve as part of Wullie Gibson’s staff.
He did more than just coach, when an injury crisis struck at Galabank Watson pulled on a shirt to play for the club in a couple of League One fixtures.
His departure from Annan was announced at the end of the season, following the club’s relegation to League Two.
Speaking after the 3-1 friendly win midweek, QOS boss Murphy said: “When I got the Queens job last season, I did ask him to come but he said no at that time because he’s been at Annan his whole life. I respected him for that but we’ve kept in touch.
“Peter then decided to leave Annan at the end of the season. Once we found that out, it was a no brainer for us to ask him if he would like to come in.
“I think the fact Annan got relegated to League Two means there’s no conflict for Peter. Excellent addition to the coaching staff and is great in the changing room. We’re delighted to get him in.”
