Double break-ins were linked - say police

POLICE say two housebreakings in Dumfries on Saturday evening were probably linked.

Officers are appealing for information following the break-ins and thefts.

The first one happened between 6.15 pm and 6.30 pm, when a property was broken into and ransacked on Tinwald Downs Road.

CCTV footage has revealed the presence of a black BMW car seen near to the house. Two people got out the car and entered the house for a short time.

The vehicle then drove off towards Dumfries town centre.

Officers believe this incident is linked to another break-in on Birchwood Way, half an hour later at about 6.55 pm, with the same people being responsible for both housebreakings.

Entry was gained to the premises and jewellery worth a four-figure sum was taken.

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Beckett said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time who may have seen the car or the occupants to get in touch.

“I would also ask people who have dash cam or doorbell recording equipment to check the footage.

“It could have captured an image of this car which could prove significant in helping us trace whoever is responsible for these break-ins.”

And Detective Sergeant Paul Steele, of Dumfries CID, added: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and noticed anything suspicious, including a black coloured vehicle near to the property, to get in touch.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have footage that might assist with our enquiries.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101, quoting reference 3003 of 16 March. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.
