Team Henderson defeated Team Mitchell in the women’s final.

The team, captained by Fay Henderson from Dumfries, took hold of the game early, opening the scoring with two from End 1 and following it up with two consecutive single steals.

Team Mitchell responded with a deuce themselves to cut their deficit, but their Dumfries rivals immediately got on the board again with a single in End 5, making it 5-2 at halftime.

Team Mitchell fought back at the restart, first scoring, then stealing a single to reduce the gap to just one point. One end and another single steal later, it was all square again. Team Henderson blanked End 9 to keep hammer going into a crucial final end. The tactic worked as the Dumfries side scored a decisive point and clinched the win by six points to five.

The Scottish Junior title awards Team Henderson the right to represent Scotland at the upcoming World Junior-B Championships, taking place in Lohja, Finland from December 8-19. There, they will fight to qualify Scotland for the World Junior Championships in February next year.

And in the men’s section Team O Carson emerged as somewhat the surprise of the tournament.

CHAMPIONS . . . Team Henderson and Team O Carson

The Dumfries team of Orrin Carson, Logan Carson, Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb faced Team Strawhorn in the final on Sunday afternoon. After a blank first end, Team Strawhorn opened the scoring with a single. Another blank followed before Team O Carson responded with a deuce and a blank fifth end kept the standings on 1-2 at halftime.

At the restart, the encounter continued where it left off with a blank before Team O Carson extended their lead with a single steal. The scores were even again when Team Strawhorn put two on the board and a blank ninth end meant it all came down to the final end. Team O Carson dealt the decisive punch with a big three points that took the scoreline to 3-6 and gave them the win.

Alongside the Scottish Junior title, Team O Carson have earned the right to represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships, taking place in Fuessen, Germany from February 25 to March 4.

Scotland are the current World Junior Men title holders and Team O Carson will be keen to defend the honours.
