TWO Dumfries men have been hailed as “lifesavers” and “heroes” after helping save a man’s life in the town centre.
James Devlin and Gary Boyle sprang into action after they spotted a man who had collapsed in English Street last Wednesday morning.
The duo had never talked or met before and were getting a haircut at a barbers close to the incident, which happened between Dickies Bar and bookmakers William Hill.
James and Gary both took turns to perform CPR until an ambulance arrived a few minutes later.
The family of the man later made an appeal on social media to find the local heroes and thank them personally.
A friend said: “The man who collapsed was unresponsive lying in the street and his family has been advised that without these two young men carrying out CPR, he would have died.
“He spent time in intensive care, but is now on a ward in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.”
On social media, the pair have been praised for their quick thinking.
One said: “I drove past and could see them helping the poor man who’d collapsed.
“They’ve been in my thoughts. I’m pleased to hear he received the help he needed! Some heroes don’t wear capes.”
Another added: “These men are lifesavers. Their quick actions almost certainly saved the man’s life.”
