THE new Dumfries High School project is progressing well on all fronts, it has been confirmed.
The plan to build a new modern school building, decant pupils into it, and then demolish the current secondary school is on schedule and within budget.
A replacement 3G pitch will also be handed over to the school next month, writes Marc McLean.
In a properties/buildings update report due to be tabled at the region’s education committee next Tuesday, manager Mo Agoun wrote: “Works commenced on site on April 18, 2024, by contractor Morgan Sindall.
“Site works are progressing well on time and on budget, with the contract sum of £53.246m.
“The projects will be delivered in three phases. Phase one will be the completion of the replacement 3G pitch, phase two is the main school build, and phase three will be the demolition of the old school and landscaping works.
“Phases one and two are running concurrently, with phase one (3G pitch) scheduled to be handed back to the school in January 2025 and the main school due for completion in April 2026.
“Phase three will follow, once pupils and staff have decanted into the new school and will be completed by March 2027. A significant milestone was achieved with all the structural steelwork completed on October 25, 2024.”
The new building will accommodate more than 900 pupils.
The site will also include new sports accommodation to replace the David Keswick Athletics Centre.
