It is being introduced to encourage smaller scale community events to be planned in the region.
The £55,000 fund is intended to stimulate and support grassroots events to take place, such as outdoor walking festivals, gala days, cycling and running events and other projects that can demonstrate public support. Community led events developments can be a key feature of the region’s social and economic recovery in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Applications are now welcome for grants up to £3000 and it is hoped that dozens of projects will be helped.
Commenting, Councillor Andy Ferguson said: “Over the years our festivals and events have put Dumfries and Galloway on the international map. This year we want to support grassroots development, to help communities come back together again and give local people things to look forward to, and we also want to ensure we retain events management skills in our rural towns and villages.”
