Everyone can get a listening ear

A TELEPHONE befriending charity is rolling out its service to the whole of Dumfries and Galloway from next month.

A Listening Ear began life in Wigtownshire in March 2020 after a group of local heroes got together to think of ways to support lonely and isolated people stuck at home because of covid.

After receiving a grant from the Communities Health and Wellbeing Fund, the group is now set to become a region wide service, and will be hosting a meeting event on Friday December 2.

Taking place at Dumfries Baptist Church from 10 am – 12 noon, it’s for those that are interested in learning more about the charity or wish to volunteer as a befriender or trustee.

A second online session is also being hosted on November 29 from 4 pm – 5.30 pm.

Penny Halliday, one of A Listening Ear’s founders, said: “We thought we’d just keep going for a few months then stop when life got back to normal.

“But we’re needed as much as ever as lots of our neighbours are still feeling cut off, struggling with loneliness and fearing rising costs of living.”

For more details about the events, including how to sign up, contact Donna Adams-Allen, volunteer co-ordinator, on [email protected] or 07466867570.
