Ewe did so well!

AN all-female team from Moffat Pétanque Club enjoyed a successful opening tournament of the season.

The Moffat Ewes travelled to Glasgow’s West End for the inaugural Ladies Open Triples pétanque competition dedicated to International Women’s Day.

Ten teams of ladies triples from all over Scotland battled for top place in the first competition of the decade. The Ewes had an impressive showing after winning four of their five matches, earning them second place. The team finished just behind Edinburgh side Inverleith Ladies, who were the overall winners with five wins.

The competition was opened by Baillie Annette Christie of Glasgow City Council with a speech on main International Women’s Day theme: Each for Equal.

Moffat Ewes team member Sue Macauley said: “This is the first women-only pétanque competition to be held in Scotland, mainly due to there not being enough women in the sport until now to hold a competition of this size. Organiser, Malcolm McKenzie, introduced the IWD women’s triples competition to England two years ago and hopes to replicate his success in Scotland. “It’s a brilliant start to the 2020 season, and we have high hopes for the rest of Moffat Pétanque Club throughout this summer.”
