Extra buses in new year

IMPROVEMENTS to bus services across Dumfries and Galloway will come into action in the new year.

Stagecoach West Scotland announced on Tuesday that it will be reintroducing a late night service for the X74 service between Dumfries and Glasgow via Moffat.

According to the new timetable which has been published on the Stagecoach website, the late night X74 bus will depart from Dumfries Whitesands at 8.45 pm only on Fridays. And a corresponding coach will leave Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station at 11.10 pm on Fridays.

The coach company also announced timetable adjustments for the following services which include all of the Dumfries town services, 500, 74, 246, X74, 879, 407, 359, 415/416. But full details of the changes have not been made public yet.

Following the announcement, Stagecoach West Scotland managing director Fiona Doherty, said: “We have worked to adjust our timetables to better meet the needs and travel habits of our customers. “We know that some of our customers have experienced issues with reliability of our bus services, we hope that by making these small adjustments we can greatly improve our service delivery.

“We’re also increasing frequency and introducing evening services where we have seen demand.”
