A ‘SIGNIFICANT’ drop was recorded in the numbers of fish caught by haaf netters in Annan last year.
The catch data was shared with members of Annan Common Good Sub Committee on Wednesday and showed a decrease in salmon, grilse and sea trout being caught during the 2024 season.
There was also a decline in the ‘angling effort’ with just 21 licences issued, three less than the previous year.
A report for this week’s meeting revealed that during the season a total of 79 salmon and grilse were caught and released, compared to
69 the previous season. However, for sea trout, a total of 72 were caught and retained/released, compared to 92 previously.
Furthermore, licensees reported a total number of 695.5 hours spent fishing through the season.
In 2024, the income generated from the licence fees was £840 and the levy fee for the haaf nets was £309.
The annual Levy Fee for 2025 is not yet known and is determined by the Annan District Salmon Fishery Board.
