Retired veterinary ‘detective’ Roger Windsor MBE from the town will be signing copies of his book ‘More Sherlock Holmes than James Herriot’ in Waterstones bookshop in Dumfries on Saturday.
And his family are also accomplished writers, with his two sons having penned professional works and his daughter a novelist.
Eldest son Richard, who lives in Abu Dhabi, writes about mobile phone technology.
Younger son Guy who lives in Helsinki, where he runs a school of historical swordplay, is the author of eight books on medieval weaponry and how to use it.
His latest book on the long sword is about to be published.
Like the father, both boys are graduates of Edinburgh University.
Daughter Claire is co-author of the novel ‘Keeping Mum’, published in 2014.
She is currently working on a history of old hospitals.
And son-in-law David Bodanis is the best known author of them all and his famous work ‘E=Mc2’ is an international best seller.
His latest book ‘The Ten Commandments’ will be published in the new year.
Roger’s book recounts his life, including his role as head of the Veterinary Diagnosis Laboratory in Kenya.
The book signing takes place on Saturday between 10.30 am and 12 noon
