Family focus for healthy eating scheme

A HEALTHY eating programme will be delivered to families in the Annan area this month.

HEALTH SERVICE . . . left to right: health improvement worker Yvonne McGregor, community link worker Darren Bryan, community link worker Eileen Seath and mum-of-two Helen McLatchie promote the Let’s Cook family fun programme

The NHS health improvement team, based in Annandale and Eskdale, are launching Let’s Cook free family sessions in October to support families in making small changes to their lifestyle.
Health improvement worker Yvonne McGregor said: “This programme is aimed at families who would like some support to become a bit healthier and it is a great way to take part in fun activities as a family.
“We will be providing families with pedometers and encouraging them to keep active by walking regularly, to carry on the healthy habits recently created by Beat the Street as well as sharing information and experiences to support them to set small goals together as a family.”
The programme, which will run from Annan Athletic FC, will be delivered one evening per week for six weeks.
And it will focus on basic cookery sessions, healthy eating, food labelling, portion sizes and shopping top tips.
Helen McLatchie, who took part in a previous project with her children Ilana and Lucas, said: “I thought I had a responsibility to my children and myself about what exercise we do and what and how much we eat.”
The programme starts on Tuesday October 27 from 5.30 pm to 7 pm, and anyone looking for more information or to book a place should contact Yvonne on 01461 204741 or 07795 237694.
