Farmhouse gutted in blaze

THIRTY firefighters from Dumfries and the Stewartry fought a farmhouse fire at Crossmichael, near Castle Douglas this morning.

The farmhouse at Drumskelly on the outskirts of Crossmichael village was gutted in the blaze which was brought under control in three hours by firefighters from Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie, Gatehouse of Fleet and Dumfries.
The fire is thought to have started in the upstairs of the house spread quickly and flames were through the roof before the firefighters arrived on the scene.
The couple who live there had managed to escape from the house and alert the emergency services. They were unhurt.
