Fast food plans put on pause

MCDONALD’S this week withdrew their planning application for a new restaurant and drive thru on Annan Road.

It was due to be heard at Wednesday’s planning committee, where officials were recommending refusal on the grounds that the site was not suitable and that it would have an “unduly detrimental visual impact”.

But the fast food chain pulled it before it could go before councillors.

They explained their reasons in a letter to Cllr David Slater, which said: “This decision has been made following our initial application was recommended for refusal by Dumfries and Galloway Council planners.

“Despite our efforts to engage with officers, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw our planning application to address the concerns outlined in the officer’s report.”

However, the firm has stressed they are not giving up on the town and added: “We remain fully committed to delivering a second restaurant in Dumfries to serve the town and surrounding area while also delivering significant investment into the regional economy.

“The development would create up to 120 new local jobs within the restaurant, together with new jobs during construction, and within the supply chain.”

They say they will be back in touch with the councillor in the new year with further details of a refined proposal.

And thanks are expressed to all who supported the scheme.
