HOT on the heels of Lockerbie, it was Lochmaben’s turn to kickstart Christmas on Sunday.
The royal burgh held a festive market and lights switch on afternoon, with the organisers declaring it was “fantastic”.
There were 22 different stalls on the High Street, live carol singing from the Singing Kettleholmies, The RH Youth Organisation drama group made an appearance, as did the Symar Dance Academy accompanied by Callum Watson on the pipes, and Santa was there to hand out sweets.
Meanwhile, the honour of performing the turn on went to the gala principals and Lochmaben legend Geordie McCall, the oldest man in the burgh.
The lights committee said: “A special thank you goes to our donator of this year’s Christmas tree which has been positioned at the church, how lovely to have a really tree again. Thank you to Jaybees Childcare Ltd for being the go between for us all.
“A huge big thank you to WE Wilson Electrical for the erection of the lights, the extra additions – we are loving the colour scheme!
“Thank you to the wonderful committee who do a wonderful job as always! A huge well done and thank you to all the performers who were all fantastic.
And finally, thank you to each and everyone of you who came along and supported our switch on. We couldn’t keep doing it without you all! We appreciate the support you give us each time and hope you all love the lights as much as we do.”
