Fern and Karlos fly the flag for Scotland

DUMFRIESSHIRE equestrian Fern Collier is thrilled to be representing Scotland again at the British Youth Eventing championship.

On Tuesday she travelled down to the event at Bishop Burton Equine College in South Yorkshire with her 13-year-old Connemara gelding Kirtle Karlos.

They are “immensely proud and honoured” to be members of the Scotland U18 BE100 team, for the second year running. Fern, from Irongray, said: “I qualified last year at BE90 and took the step up to the BE100 class this season and have thankfully made the team again. “Karlos has been in our family since he was a yearling with Mum and my big sister Sara bringing him on. Him and I have been a partnership now for two years.

“We’re so looking forward to the competition this week, parading the Scotland flag in the opening ceremony gives you such a great feeling.”

The Scottish team has ten entrants competing in three disciplines: dressage, cross country and showjumping, against all other home nation countries.

Fern, 17, added: “I would like to thank mum, John and Sara who travel with me all over the country and my sponsors, Wilson Electrical and Murray Horsecare, for their continued financial support. I hope I can do them proud.”
