A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Annan.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Annan.

Police and fire crews were called to the property on Lady Street at 6.55 am yesterday morning. The street was closed throughout the day with the public asked to avoid the area.

Now police have confirmed that the body of a man was found within  one of the flats, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.55am on Tuesday, 19 November, 2024, we were made aware of a fire at a property in Lady Street, Annan.

“Emergency services attended, and the fire was extinguished.

“The body of a man was found within and his family has been made aware.

“A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and enquiries are at an early stage.

“A joint investigation with the SFRS is ongoing.”

As of this morning Lady Street remains closed.
