A HOUSE in Gretna Green was badly damaged by fire at the weekend.
The blaze broke out in the single storey property in Sarkside Place late on Saturday night and resulted in some of the neighbours having to be evacuated.
No-one was injured but the clean up is now going on, with police still stationed outside the home.
Fire crews rushed to the street from Longtown, Annan, Langholm and Lockerbie after being alerted at about 11.30 pm.
A spokesperson from Longtown, which was first on the scene, said it was ‘well developed’ when they got there, adding: “Thankfully there were no casualties, and our crew was in attendance until about 1.30 am on Sunday morning.
“Scottish crews were in attendance until approximately 6 am.
“We often work closely with our Scottish Fire and Rescue colleagues and offer vital backup to each other, ensuring the safety of all our communities.
“The property was extensively damaged.”
Police and the fire service launched a joint investigation into the incident and a man was arrested and charged and appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court earlier this week.
