A MOCK pile up was simulated just outside Dumfries on Saturday as part of a fire service training exercise.
The incident replicated a multi vehicle crash on the A711, half a mile north of Dumfries, involving a tractor, a log lorry that had shed it load of logs with a vehicle under the lorry, a school bus and four other vans and cars, alongside a large number of casualties.
Alongside four live trapped casualties with professional injury make up applied to add an extra dimension of realism, there were also three young casualty actors from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Stranraer Youth Volunteers.
The multi-agency event was codenamed Exercise Logjam and was an opportunity for the emergency services from across the region to train, respond and work in a learning environment.
The aim was to evaluate emergency service responses to a significant large-scale incident and incorporate potential enhancements to planning, training and resourcing for similar incidents in the future.
SFRS Station Commander Colin Wallace said: “This was an invaluable exercise for all agencies participating, and allowed us to further enhance our working relationships with our emergency service colleagues and volunteers.
“We will continue to build upon these relationships to enhance our response to RTC and other joint emergency incident responses.”
