Lockerbie and Lochmaben

PEOPLE power won over policy last week.

The Royal Burgh of Lochmaben was decked with bunting for their gala day celebrations . . . with thanks to youngsters from Jaybees Nursery.
Last week we reported that Dumfries and Galloway Council had demanded that Lochmaben Gala Committee remove the blue and white bunting strung across the street on lampposts.
And on Friday council officials from DGFirst visited the High Street and began removing the bunting.
However, they did an about turn when 20 youngsters turned up to protest, chanting ‘we want the flags’.
Officials conceded and allowed the flags to remain in place for the weekend’s annual festivities.
