A MOFFAT charity shop is getting back to normal after flooding last week.
Volunteers at the Alfie’s Dream For Greyhounds charity shop on Well Street were greeted with water falling from the ceiling last Monday from the flat above the shop.
Once the water was turned off the full extent of the damage was revealed: the ceiling was discoloured, the carpet was drenched, the counter was soaked, the electric till was beyond repair and some of the stock was ruined.
The flood has worried kennel manager Mandy Bleasdale, pictured, as the shop is the charity’s main source of income. She said: “The shop was refurbished only 12 months ago so this has come at a really bad time for us.
“We have 35 dogs to feed and care for, the shop was our main source of income paying for the kibble, toys and vets bills.”
Although the shop was cleaned up and re-opened earlier this week, thanks to the help of its volunteers, some of the damage is still visible. An appeal has now been launched to cover the costs of repairs. Mandy added: “Stock has been coming in thick and fast, I’ve made three trips up to Moffat just this week, but we’re using pen and paper to keep track of sales.
“So far the appeal is going well, we’re hoping to raise £1000 to fix the ceiling and the carpet. We’re so grateful to everyone who donated so far and thank you to our volunteers for all their hard work.”
