Fond farewell to minister Martin

A WELL known and popular minister is hanging up his cassock.

Rev Martin Callaghan has retired from the Annandale Episcopal Churches after 28 years as a full time vicar.

And a surprise gathering was held at All Saints in Gretna on Sunday to wish him well, with congregations and clergy attending from Moffat, Lockerbie, Annan and Eastriggs to pay tribute and show their appreciation.

The organisers said: “In addition of his everyday duties, Martin has taken assemblies in Gretna Primary and they have had services at the church. Also, he has a good relationship with Sparklers Nursery.

“Over the years many people have had weddings, baptisms and funerals at the church as Martin is known for conducting good services and is truly empathetic with those concerned.

“Martin is wished a long and happy retirement.”

He was also praised for his meaningful sermons, giving 100 per cent of himself to the church and helping and guiding people on their personal journeys as well as offering support at times of stress.
