Football accident damaged park Beltie

YOUTHS have owned-up to accidentally damaging a cut-out cow which arrived in Moffat earlier this month.

Several Belties made of PVC were dotted around the region ahead of the virtual Royal Highland Show, which Dumfries and Galloway hosted this year.

Anger was sparked amongst local residents when one placed in Station Park was discovered with a chunk taken out of it – with many assuming it had been the work of vandals.

However, this week Moffat Community Council chair Leys Geddes revealed this was not the case.

He said that police have now confirmed the incident “was caused accidentally by local youths playing football”.

And Mr Geddes added that those responsible “came forward voluntarily and admitted responsibility”.
