POLICE are teaming up with Carlisle United to urge fans to enjoy this weekend’s League Two fixture with Bradford City responsibly.
A bumper crowd is expected to attend Saturday’s match, which kicks off at 12.30 pm, with officers appealing for fans to not let emotions spill into criminal activity.
Chief superintendent Carl Patrick said: “We are all looking forward to what will hopefully be a great event for both sets of supporters.
“We are expecting a big crowd to attend, therefore there will be a significant policing presence in and around the stadium and the city centre on Saturday.
“As with any high-profile event our officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone.
“Whilst we appreciate the passion people have for their respective football team, we are asking fans to remain respectful, responsible and mindful of others to ensure everyone can enjoy the fixture safely.
“Where an individual engages in unlawful behaviour, the police will step in and take action.”
Nigel Clibbens, Carlisle United’s chief executive, added: “The game promises to have a big crowd. Rivalry has grown in recent seasons and that has made for a fantastic atmosphere at games, and it will be brilliant to see that again at this game.
“We want our fans to do the club proud, but we don’t want the passion to spill over into disorder or misbehaviour. Let’s make the headlines for the right reasons.”
