Forest is good for the soul

GLENTROOL Forest has been named one of Scotland’s most ‘enriching’ attractions, according to new research.

New research into travel trends by VisitScotland has identified wellness travel as one of the leading trends for 2025, highlighting experiences that enhance both physical and mental wellbeing.

This shift has sparked the concept of soul travel—a transformative way to explore Scotland’s landscapes while embracing relaxation, self-reflection, and connection with nature. In light of this growing trend, VisitScotland has curated a guide featuring ‘unique, soul-enriching experiences across Scotland’.

The Wigtownshire forest is the only location in Dumfries and Galloway to be included in the soul travel guide and is described as ‘balm for the soul’, the guide states: “Glentrool is a place of quiet beauty where you can lose yourself in nature. The sound of flowing water, accompanied by birdsong and the rustling of leaves, creates the most peaceful environment. Whether walking along scenic trails, pausing by the lochs, or simply taking in the fresh air, Glentrool is a balm for the soul.”
