Former police station takeover on track

PROGRESS continues to be made on Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust’s takeover of the former police station.

The Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust began operating a community shop out of the unmanned police station in 2022 after reaching an agreement with Police Scotland.

Last year they announced their intentions to apply for a full community asset transfer to bring the station under their wing and continue to operate it as a community shop, with consideration given to accommodate a local tourist information centre working together with existing local tourist groups for the benefit of the town.

Now the trust have applied for £14,000 of funding to continue the transfer process.

A short update was read aloud at Tuesday’s meeting of Moffat and District Community Council, which stated: “There is an application for £14,000 for investigative works to put forward a full application there will be an invitation to submit a stage two application. The trust and Police Scotland remain in discussions about the asset transfer and Dumfries and Galloway Council are supporting the project.”
