Forum seeks new faces

PEOPLE are being sought from Dumfries and Galloway to help shape the future of the South of Scotland.

Applications are now open for places on the South of Scotland Regional Economic Partnership (REP).

It is looking to appoint a total of eight external members: four from the private sector, two social enterprise representatives and two community representatives.

The REP is the forum that brings together a wide range of expertise and sets the direction of the regional economy across Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders.

Part of its role will be the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy, which was launched last year and aims to take forward a fairer, greener and flourishing South of Scotland.

The eight new members will join councillors from both local authorities, as well as Board Members from South of Scotland Enterprise and representatives from other agencies.

They will be appointed for two years. Meetings will be held throughout the South of Scotland, and online, a minimum of four times a year. The role is voluntary, but expenses will be paid.

Co-Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Stephen Thompson said: “If you are passionate about fair and flourishing local communities, whatever your skills background, whether you have some volunteering expertise or experience at senior management level, anyone with an interest can get in touch and help shape our future.”
